Service Learning
The Center for Service Learning is a place where many paths meet. The center is a point of contact and interaction connecting academic and service aspects of the student's college experience. In essence, the Center is students, faculty and other community member applying experimental education methods and shared resources to address student needs and those of the wider community. The center supports student-community interaction by connecting academic instruction with service opportunities through student placement in non-profit agencies and service projects. The Center provides support and guidance to those interested in pursuing internships and other service-learning options in their academic and vocational courses. The Center works directly with faculty, students, community agencies and administrators to support the successful inclusion of service learning in the courses and culture of this institution.
Students, teachers and others may come to the Center for information, placement, and support of service-learning in the classroom, on campus or beyond, wherever a project or placement might occur. A database of service-learning providers and users is maintained at the Center.
The Center is a hub for service-learning exchange programs between classrooms, schools, and communities. The Center publicizes service-learning conferences and other professional development opportunities for faculty and students. The Center takes a leadership role in the region and the state in support of service-learning opportunities in the educational system.
