Substance Abuse Counselor
This program prepares individuals for entry level employment in positions in substance abuse counseling. The prerequisite for entering the program is a minimum of 1000 hours of experience working in the substance abuse field. This time may have been as a paid employee or as a volunteer, but it must be documented and approved by the department prior to acceptance in the program.
It is expected that individuals completing this program will take the necessary steps to become certified by the state as substance abuse counselors. This program is designed to give the student course work and background for continuation into other fields, e.g. Human services.
