The TRiO/Student Support Services Program is a federally funded grant program designed to assist eligible students in overcoming social, academic and cultural barriers to obtaining a college education. The targeted population for TRiO/Student Support Services must be enrolled or admitted for enrollment, be first generation, low income, and/or have a documented disability (physical or learning) and have a need for academic support (as defined by the Department of Education). In addition, the student must have fewer than 70 earned after units and whose COMPASS scores are at or above Math (25), Reading (55), English (20):

UNM-Gallup's TRiO/Student Support Services Program serves 160 students, allowing for the opportunity to work with students intensely in the areas of tutoring and personal, academic and career advisement. TRiO/Student Support Services staff builds personal and professional relationships with students because of the amount of quality one-on-one interaction that is offered. The staff at UNM-Gallup TRiO/Student Support Services Program creates a climate of support for students as they strive to move out of poverty and dependence toward financial freedom and independence.
