Carmela Lanza's poem, "To Burn or Bury Them," from her series of poems on the Dawson, NM mining tragedies, has been accepted for publication in Blue Collar Review: Journal of Progressive Working Class Literature. Lanza started working on this series of poems during her 2016 summer writing residency at Santa Fe Art Institute in Santa Fe, NM. Lanza will also be facilitating a creative writing workshop at the Art123 Gallery here in Gallup. The workshop will focus on journal writing and healing. Carmela Lanza Profile

New Gallery Exhibition

Dan Grissom, from Austin TX, is exhibiting paintings, screen prints and gig posters in the gallery from August 23-September 25. Dan is an artist, musician and business owner. In an effort to promote a healthier UNM-Gallup, beginning August 15, we will be a TOBACCO-FREE campus! This includes a ban on cigarettes, e-cigarettes, hookas, and smokeless tobacco. Thank you for your cooperation in spreading the word and helping to make UNM-Gallup a healthier place to work and learn.

Congratulations go out to Kathy Head for her recent designation as Associate Professor Emeritus. In her most recent role, Ms. Head was Division Chair for Arts and Sciences. She also had a very successful career as both an instructor and Director of the UNM-Gallup Nursing Program. Craig White, Acting Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs said he was granting this designation "based on the recommendation we received and the unanimous vote of the faculty of UNM-Gallup." Lobo "facelift" for the Campus

Many thanks to our Physical Plant and friends for the new Lobo landscaping done around campus. The design was done by community member Ed Munoz, and our own Joe Sanchez, welding instructor, donated the materials. Notice of Library Computer Lab Closure

The Zollinger Library Computer Lab will be closed May 15 through May 31 while the building's air-conditioning/heating system is replaced. Students may use computers in the library. Community members are asked to seek an alternate computer facility, such as the Octavia Fellin Public Library. We apologize for the inconvenience.
