Welcome to the Department of Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy (TEELP). The department prepares students to become qualified teachers, effective leaders, change agents and academic researchers in the diverse schools and universities of New Mexico. TEELP offers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educational degree programs that prepare graduates to be teachers, principals and educational leaders who make a difference.

What will you learn?


Elementary Education Program

The Elementary Education Program offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Some degrees contain components for licensure as an elementary educator in the State of New Mexico. Graduate degrees for practicing teachers and for those seeking K-8 licensure are also available. The program strives to prepare and support the very best teachers for all of New Mexico’s children; and is enriched by the diverse, contrastive linguistic and cultural communities of the region.

Secondary Education Program

The Secondary Education Program offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees for students seeking a teaching license (grades 7-12) and experienced teachers interested in a scholarly study of their practice.

Educational Leadership Program

The degree and certificate programs in Educational Leadership are designed to prepare individuals to assume leadership positions in complex educational organizations at successively higher levels of responsibility.
