TEAS Nursing Program exam info_
This is a page about how we use the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) as one small part of the UNM-G Nursing Program. [See below for a sample TEAS scoring report that shows which scores the UNM-G Nursing Program uses to determine student eligibility]
What scores do I need to get into the program? [See picture below for a sample TEAS scoring report]
The following is a list of main points about the TEAS test as it applies to consideration. These scores are entered on the UNM-G Nursing Program selection tool and added to the other items listed on the selection tool.
You are tested in four areas: Reading, Math, Science and English.
-
We use the National Percentile number (see picture below) as our measurement of your potential success.
-
The following is a list of scores mandatory for consideration: MATH = 40th percentile or better; READING = 50th percentile or better. See the chart below FOR NUMBERS OF POINTS ASSIGNED TO EACH SCORE..
-
If you do not score the minimums listed in Math and Reading, you will not be considered for admission to the program. You may re-take the TEAS test up to four (4) times.
-
If you score in the 50th percentile or higher in English and/or Science, you will receive an extra 1 point for each or both in which you receive the 50 or better.
-
However, if you do not score 50th percentile or better in English or Science, it does not count against you.
-
The TEAS test will be given via computer starting fall, 2007, for the spring, 2008 class. Onsite computer technicians will be available to assist those not familiar with computers.
-
We administer the TEAS test twice a year—once in the spring [for the fall class], and once in the fall [for the spring class].
-
You are allowed to take the TEAS test four (4) times. After the 4th try, if you do not meet our minimums, we recommend that you email the Nursing Department Chair, Marji Campbell, mcampbel@gallup.unm.edu or call for an appointment with her at 505-863-7514.
-
For study materials, you may buy a TEAS test-prep book at the UNM-G bookstore, or by going to: Testing Company Website.
