Fundamentals of biological and cultural anthropology; origin of mankind, prehistoric adaptation, and contemporary cultural and linguistic diversity. Fall, Spring. (Main campus course)
ANTH 130: CULTURES OF THE WORLD (3 cr hrs)
Basic concepts and methods cultural anthropology Selected cultures, ranging from preliterate societies of aspects and urban civilization Spring. (Main campus course)
ANTH 150: EVOLUTION & HUMAN EMERGENCE (3 cr hrs)
Fundamentals of biological anthropology and principles of organic evolution, in relation to the biology, ecology and behavior of primates and fossil humans. Biological anthropology concentrators are required, and others are encouraged, to enroll concurrently in 151L. Meets New Mexico Lower Division General Education Common Core Curriculum Area IV: Social/Behavior sciences. (Main Campus Course)
ANTH 151L: HUMAN EVOLUTION LABORATORY (1 cr hr)
The factual basis of human evolution, from primates to interpretation of recent human fossils. Recommended but not required that this be taken concurrently with 150. 2hr. lab (Main campus Course)
ANTH 230: T/INDIANS OF NEW MEXICO (3 cr hrs)
Survey of the Indian cultures of New Mexico including anthropology perspectives on their history, language, social organization, economy, health, and education. (Main Campus Course)
ANTH 230: T/NAVAJO CULTURAL HISTORY (3 cr hrs)
This class will explore navajo culture, religion, and language in depth. A beter understanding of place, names and appreciation of sacred sites will be highly emplasized in lectures and assigned readings.
ANTH 238: CULTURES OF THE SOUTHWEST (3 cr hrs)
Basic concepts of cultural anthropology illustrated with overviews of social cultural patterns of Southwest Indians and Hispanics. (Main Campus Course)
