Welcome

The University of New Mexico-Gallup is located at the crossroads of many cultures. Among the people who share the region's rich heritage: Navajo, Zuni, and European American, including Anglo, Hispanic, Italian, Czech, and others. These cultures have intersected and influenced each other through the predominant economic endeavors of the peoples, including sheep and goat ranching, agricultural crops, the Native American arts trade, and mining.

As a means of studying and showcasing this unique intercultural history, UNM-Gallup now houses a Center for Southwest and Border Studies. UNM-Gallup recognizes that the center, its holdings, and activities constitute a treasure designed to provide enriched, diversified, and culturally relevant educational experiences.  The center’s first accession is the extensive archive from the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial.
