The University of New Mexico-Gallup
Curation of the Archives

UNM-Gallup was recently awarded $50,000 from the New Mexico State Legislature to help launch the project that will preserve the archives of the Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial. The archival material was moved to the college campus in March 2007. A conservator will now be hired to go through the materials and prepare them for further study and organization.
Video Documentary
UNM-Gallup
has started two video projects in connection with the Center for Southwest
Studies effort. The one linked on this page is of Sadie Curtis,
a well-known Navajo weaver, who is also one of several
generations of a family weaving
in the Ganado and other styles. The short film, by
videographer Laurie McDonald, was created to help the college raise
funds for further development of video projects
and for the Center. It is hoped that the film may be expanded to feature other
weavers and artists from this region. McDonald has also shot video footage
for a future project on the Ceremonial. This project will continue as funding
becomes available.
