Michelle Kellywood-Yazzie


Ms. Kellywood-Yazzie is a member of the Dine/Navajo Nation, raised in Thoreau, NM she currently resides in Gallup, New Mexico and. She was admitted to the first class of BSN to PhD students at the University of New Mexico (Albuquerque) in spring 2011. Ms. Kellywood-Yazzie is a recipient of Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar. 2012-2014. Michelle Kellywood-Yazzie is passionate about the role school nurses play in the health of our communities. She has a special interest in impacting the health of Native American youth throughout the nation. Ms. Kellywood-Yazzie is a community leader as school board president of Baca/Dlo Yazhi Community School and a board member of the New Mexico Center for Nursing Excellence. She is on the faculty in the Nursing program at the University of New Mexico (UNM)- Gallup branch campus, which serves a diverse, rural community. As an educator, she would like to see integration of culturally relevant teaching materials throughout the curriculum, so that nursing students have the tools to become truly holistic nurses.
