Presently, UNM Gallup Awards thirty-nine degrees and twenty-four certificates. Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Applied Science Degrees are granted at the close of each semester. When a student completes all requirements for a degree, the date of the completion is recorded on the student's transcript.
The Associate of Arts Degree is designed for students who plan to pursue a baccalaureate degree; however, some Associate of Arts programs fulfill occupational or personal goals.
The Associate of Applied Science Degree is designed for students who are planning employment following the awarding of the degree. In many situations, however, the credits included in the Associate of Applied Science do apply toward a baccalaureate degree.
The Associate of Science Degree at Gallup is designed primarily for students specializing in Nursing, Community Health, Science and Medical Laboratory Technology. Special requirements are necessary for admission to the Nursing program. See chairperson for details.
General Graduation Requirements and Regulations for all Associate's Degrees
Candidates for any associate's degree offered by any UNM College must meet the following University minimum degree requirements, and are subject to the following University limitations:
- A minimum of 60 acceptable semester hours must be earned.
- A minimum of 15 semester hours must be earned in residence at UNM, exclusive of extension and correspondence credits. The remainder may be acceptable transfer credits earned at fully accredited institutions of higher learning and/or at regionally accredited technicalvocational institutions (see also Transfer Students for transfer credit regulations).
- Of the 60 hours minimum, no more than 9 semester hours may be earned by extension of correspondence.
- The student must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00.

- University Skills courses numbered 100 or below may not be used to satisfy any of the above requirements. Students are advised to apply for graduation. Applications are available in the Student Services Center, Gurley Hall 1137.
- A maximum of 12 credits earned under CR/NC option may be allowed towards associate's degree requirements.
- Students will not be permitted to graduate if they have unresolved incomplete (I) grades on their academic record.

- Students must be admitted to the program from which the degree is awarded.
NOTE: Students must abide by published degree standards in effect at the time of admission to the program. If enrollment is discontinued for a period of one semester or more, students are subject to degree requirements that are current at the time of reentry. Only courses numbered 101 and above may be credited toward a degree. All students are expected to familiarize themselves with college and department degree requirements. The responsibility for complying with all regulations rests with the student. A student who transfers from one-degree program to another may lose credit hours that do not apply to the technical core area. Transfer or substitution of credit hours may be made for courses which are common to (or elective to) both degrees by written approval of the Program Department Chairperson.
Second Associate's Degree
A second Associate's Degree will be granted when a student has earned a minimum of 15 semester hours above the requirements for the first degree and fulfilled all requirements for the second degree, including residence requirements.
Certificates
Certificate programs are designed primarily for those students not presently pursuing an associate's degree. Selection of course work, typically in the applied science curricula, is made in conjunction with the student and the program advisor. Courses taken as part of the certificate program may apply toward an associate's degree. A certificate will be awarded to students who maintain a GPA of 2.00.
A Specialist Certificate may be awarded after completion of the one-year certificate. See respective chairperson for details.
