Health Information Technology
The Associate of Science degree program in Health Information Technology (HIT) is designed to prepare students to maintain patient records and health information data in every health care setting including acute care, long-term care, ambulatory care, insurance and federal agencies. The UNM Gallup Health Information Technology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Program (CAAHEP) in cooperation with the Council of Accreditation of the American Health Information Management Association (AHMIMA). Upon successful completion of the program the graduate is awarded an Associate of Science degree and is eligible to take the national accrediting examination which leads to certification as an Accredited Record Technician (ART). The graduate may pursue a baccalaureate degree leading to the professional designation of a Registered Record Administrator (RRA).
