Math/Science Tutoring Center
Meet our team of Math/Science Tutoring Center!
Tyson McCabe, Peer Tutor
My name is Tyson McCabe. I am a Math/Science peer tutor. Currently I am working on earning my Associates in General Sciences; after that, I plan on going into pharmacy or somewhere within Bio-chemistry and soon into Pharmacy. A goal of mine would be to one day work in a research lab that develops pharmaceuticals for public distribution and one day go into fashion photography. Interests of mine would include anything dealing with art and science. I enjoy listening to music, looking at fashion magazines, social media and watching reality tv during my free time, and shopping! My favorite shows would be Project Runway, Rupaul’s Drag Race, Will & Grace, and Keeping Up with the Kardashians. My favorite artists would me Dahli, Van Gogh, Jackson Pollock, and Georgia O’Keefe. My top three music artists would be Lana Del Rey, Amy Winehouse and Frank Sinatra. Working within the Math/Science tutoring center allows me to meet new people and help share the knowledge that I have accumulated while attending UNM-Gallup. It’s a great opportunity to work with fellow peers and faculty members. I believe math and science are both an art that one can master if you make it fun in a way that allows you to learn. Please feel free to come see me if you have any questions regarding material or just need to talk. A quote that I like to live by is; “You can never can be overdressed or overeducated” - Oscar Wilde
Kyle Tsosie, Peer Tutor
, Kyle Tsosie . I have great passion in mathematics and art. I am enrolling in the liberal art degree towards an architecture career. I became passionate for mathematics when I discovered my hobby, Yu-Gi-Oh Trading Card Game. The game consisted lots of quick math problems with memorizing numbers on the cards, your opponent, and yourself. I started my card collection since the year 2000. When art became my passion, I was in elementary school as I looked down on my stick figure and said to myself, “ I want to draw better.” So practice and practice I did on sketching to be better. I got to where I was confident enough to join a New Mexico art competition with a collage of Gallup, New Mexico photos and won third place with Ben Lujan choice award. I am a fan of heroes and my two favorites are Superman and Spider-man. Some of my favorite T.V. shows are Friends, Smallville, Hercules the Legendary Journey, ect. Some anime that are my favorite to watch are Yu-Gi-Oh, Fairy Tail, RWBY, ect. I hope that one day that I get to become one of two of my career goals which are either architecture, or digital media. One quote to acknowledged was from a character of the game FFXIII, “It’s not a question of can or can’t. There are some things in life you just do.”- Lighting.
John White, Education Specialist
My professional background is in Architecture, but my ambition for teaching goes back 2012 when I became an adjunct Math instructor. I come from a big family and a first generation educator and U.S. Navy veteran. They say that you know you’ve made it when you’re doing what you enjoy as a career, and that’s how I feel about being a Math/Science Education Specialist here at UNM Gallup. It’s very gratifying to assist varies students to discover something about themselves, as lifelong scholars, and teaching math in particular makes this journey so much more significant to me. It’s amazing how much you can learn about yourself and the world around you through math which makes everyday life orderly and limits turmoil. I’m an artist and architecture designer by trade, mathematician by structure. I am charmed with Ancient Architecture, Archimedes, and Art. I readied books on intellectual ability of the mind for a week when the UNM campus was closed for the holidays, and my idea of a good vacation involves traveling around the world especially, when I went sky diving in Guam, water rafting/zip lining through the Amazon Rainforest, exploring Ancient Inca sites in Peru, hiking Mt.Fuji. Moreover, I have marveled over architectural structures in parts of European, Asia and Australia. I am also interested in using mathematics in educational settings, and currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Architectural History or Technology with a concentration in teaching.
