Student Instructions
When to arrive
- Arrive Saturday, May 16, after 8 a.m. at the designated student drop-off site on Logan Avenue located northwest of the stadium.
- The ceremony will begin promptly at 10 a.m. and you must be checked in before then.
What to bring
- Your regalia and comfortable shoes. (To avoid damage to the surface of the field and ensure your safety, high heels are not permitted.)
- Please do not bring personal belongings that you cannot carry with you through the entire ceremony. You will not have anywhere to store them.
What time it ends
- The ceremony is expected to end by 11:30 a.m. but may run longer or shorter.
All About Student Regalia
- Regalia is purchased from the UNM-Gallup Bookstore.
- Please arrive already dressed in your regalia. How to wear regalia.
- Tassel should be worn on the right side of your cap, until the tassel ceremony in which the graduating class collectively moves the tassel from the right to the left during the ceremony.
Representing yourself or your heritage
- Commencement academic regalia must be worn, but it can be left unzipped and open to display your own heritage or cultural regalia underneath it.
- Caps and tassels must be worn. Shawls, cords, stoles, et., should be academic or from a University-recognized student organization.
- Tasteful decoration of caps is permitted. However, if it is determined to be offensive by a Marshal, you will have to remove it to participate.
Lost regalia
- There is no backup regalia at the event, so please double-check your regalia before you leave.
- We recommend that you hang up your regalia a few days before commencement, to make you have all the necessary piece. If you are missing an item, please make sure to pick it up at the UNM-Gallup Bookstore with enough time to ensure you can arrive at the stadium at the appropriate time.
Photography
UNM-Gallup has contracted with Del Rey Photography to offer all graduates an opportunity to purchase images at an affordable rate. Graduates will receive information on how to place an order at the time of check-in and via email within two weeks after the ceremony.
Since professional photographs will be available, family members and guests are requested to remain in their seats, relax and enjoy the ceremony.
Parking
The commencement ceremony takes place at the Angelo DiPaolo Memorial Stadium at the corner of Grandview Drive and Logan Avenue. Graduating students will need to be dropped off at the student drop off site on Logan Avenue and Cliff Drive.
Family and guests are requested to park in the parking lot across Grandview Drive from the stadium. Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking permits are not required from either students or guests. Please plan to arrive on time to secure your parking spot.
